Outcomes of Former Trainees
To date, the MARC GatorSTAR program has 25 former fellows (i.e., fellows who completed the program, left the program, or were terminated from the program). Of these 25 former fellows, 22 (88%) completed at least one program training year.
Graduation Rates: Among all 25 former fellows, 24 (96%) graduated with a BS degree, and 1 is still completing their BS degree.
Biomedical Careers: Of the 24 former fellows who have graduated with a BS degree, 16 (64%) matriculated to PhD or MD/PhD programs (14 in PhD programs, 2 in MD/PhD programs), none continued to professional-only doctoral programs, 4 (12%) continued directly to careers in the biomedical or behavioral sciences (e.g., as laboratory technicians or biomedical engineers in academic labs or industry), 2 continued to engineering positions in non-medical industry or government fields, and 1 continued to a customer service position. Therefore, 80% of all prior fellows have thus far continued to doctoral programs or careers in the biomedical and behavioral sciences.
Doctoral Program Placement: All fellows who continued to doctoral programs matriculated to highly competitive graduate programs:
