Program Benefits

Participants in the MARC Program enjoy numerous benefits. MARC fellows students are supported academically, emotionally, and economically throughout their junior and senior years at UF.  MARC fellows will:

  • Perform research side-by-side with eminent scientists at UF.
  • Be mentored at all levels during their academic career.
  • Acquire training in laboratory and research techniques.
  • Travel to state, regional, and/or national meetings to present their own work.
  • Receive a stipend and a partial tuition scholarship.

Academic and Professional Development Resources and Support

MARC fellows are provided the following academic and professional development resources and support:

  • Professional development training on research skills, scientific ethics, and scientific communication
  • Personalized monitoring of academic progress
  • Personalized advising and counseling to foster academic achievement
  • Assistance with preparation for and application to graduate school
  • Orientation and regular group meetings with the MARC program staff
  • Presentation of a research talk or poster in the scholar’s senior year at an
  • approved regional or national scientific conference.

Research Mentorship

Each MARC fellow is matched with a UF faculty mentor, with whom the fellow will participate in mentored research for all years in the program.

Extramural Mentorship Program

During the summer prior of their second program year, each fellow may participate in full-time research with a faculty research mentor at another academic institution. Fellows can receive funds for travel and subsistence and continue to receive their monthly stipend.
